Injury Crash on I-84 Near Nampa Closes Westbound Lanes Sunday Morning
A early-morning collision on Interstate 84 in Nampa left one person hospitalized and snarled westbound traffic for nearly ninety minutes on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The Idaho State Police are investigating the crash, which took place at roughly 5:48 a.m. near the westbound off-ramp at mile marker 33.
A 23-year-old male driver from Ontario, Oregon, was behind the wheel of a Mazda 5 traveling westbound when the vehicle struck a Volvo truck-tractor pulling a Great Dane trailer. The Mazda driver was taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance. The truck driver, a 54-year-old male from Beaverton, Oregon, was not transported. Both individuals had been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews from the Nampa Police Department, Nampa Fire Department, and Canyon County Paramedics assisted Idaho State Police in managing the scene. Westbound travel lanes on I-84 remained blocked for approximately an hour and a half while responders worked to clear the roadway.
The crash remains under active investigation by Idaho State Police District 3, which covers Canyon County and much of southwestern Idaho. With summer travel season underway, residents and visitors are reminded that ISP has been stepping up highway enforcement efforts — troopers increased patrols through Memorial Day weekend on State Highway 55 and other major corridors across the region.
