Caldwell Voters Decide on $5.8M School Levy in November

Canyon County residents face a decision on a proposed $5.8 million supplemental levy for the Caldwell School District during the November 3 general election. The measure seeks to raise property taxes to fund staff retention, campus safety improvements, and extracurricular programs.

Levy Details and Tax Impact

The proposal represents a significant increase from the district’s current $4.1 million levy. If approved by voters, the new funding structure would take effect on July 1, 2027, and remain in place through June 30, 2029.

District officials estimate the financial impact on homeowners will be modest relative to property values. Based on an average home value of $375,000 within the district boundaries, as reported by Zillow, the levy would cost the typical homeowner approximately $45 per year, or less than $4 per month.

Funding Priorities for Caldwell Schools

District leadership emphasizes that the additional revenue is necessary to maintain current service levels rather than expand operations. Leslie Solis stated that supplemental levies provide “vital funds” for students in the district.

“We’re not asking for more and we’re asking enough to continue to invest within our Caldwell students,” Solis said. The funds are designated for supporting staff at schools such as Caldwell High School and Lewis and Clark Elementary, alongside safety upgrades and program funding.

Voter Decision in November

The levy will appear on the ballot for the general election on Nov. 3. Voters in Canyon County must approve the measure for the increased tax rate to begin collecting revenue next year.
