Caldwell Voters Face $5.8 Million School Levy in November

Canyon County residents will decide on a significant education funding measure this fall. The Caldwell School District has placed a $5.8 million supplemental levy on the November ballot, seeking voter approval to maintain current operational levels.

Levy Purpose and Funding Structure

District officials state the revenue is necessary to retain staff, support athletics and transportation, strengthen school safety, and expand career technical education programs. While the levy amount is set at $5.8 million, state funding mechanisms may reduce the actual cost to homeowners.

Idaho 1st Congressional District Race

The November election also features a competitive race for Idaho’s 1st Congressional District seat. Four candidates are vying for the position, with distinct policy differences regarding federal land management. Incumbent Russ Fulcher supports greater state influence over federal lands, while challengers Kaylee Peterson and Sarah Zabel favor continued federal control of public lands.

Rural Healthcare Concerns

Beyond local elections, Idaho’s rural healthcare sector faces mounting pressure. Rural hospitals are grappling with staffing shortages, higher operational costs, and thin profit margins. Upcoming Medicaid cuts and eligibility changes have raised fears that some facilities may reduce services or close entirely.
