Church of Jesus Christ confirms location of Caldwell Temple

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has officially confirmed the location of a new temple planned for Caldwell, Idaho, announcing the structure will be built on a 19.2-acre parcel near the intersection of Orchard Avenue and South Florida Avenue in Canyon County. The confirmation follows earlier land acquisition activity at the site and a 2025 church announcement that Caldwell would receive one of fifteen new temple locations planned worldwide.

Site Details and Project Scope

The church’s news release confirmed the Caldwell temple will encompass approximately 82,000 square feet and will include a meetinghouse and an additional building on the property. Satellite imagery of the parcel indicates it consists of former or recent agricultural land, consistent with much of the surrounding landscape in this portion of Canyon County. The site sits less than a mile east of existing residential subdivisions along Indiana Avenue.

The location offers relatively convenient access to much of the Treasure Valley. It sits roughly six miles from downtown Caldwell, about five and a half miles from downtown Nampa, and within a few miles of two Interstate 84 interchanges — at Northside Boulevard and West Karcher Road. The property is also approximately two miles from a main entrance to Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, a federal wildlife area along the shores of Lake Lowell that draws visitors from across the region.

Significance for Idaho’s Latter-day Saint Community

The Caldwell temple will become the 11th temple the church has built in Idaho and the third located in the Treasure Valley, reflecting the significant presence the faith has established across the state. Church officials say Idaho is home to roughly 480,000 members worshipping across approximately 1,300 congregations.

Elder Stephen J. Larson, a local church leader, spoke to the importance of the project for area members. “Temples are sacred and special places of worship, and we are filled with gratitude knowing one has been announced for Caldwell, Idaho,” Larson said in the church’s news release. “The new House of the Lord will provide closer proximity for many members of the Church to serve and worship the Lord.”

For Latter-day Saint families throughout Canyon County and the broader western Treasure Valley, the new temple represents a meaningful reduction in travel time and distance. Prior to this announcement, members in the Caldwell and Nampa areas relied on existing Treasure Valley temple facilities to participate in the faith’s most sacred ordinances.

Background on the Caldwell Announcement

The church’s purchase of the 19.2-acre site was recorded on July 14 of last year, though church officials declined at the time to confirm publicly that the parcel was earmarked for the temple project. The broader announcement that Caldwell would be among fifteen new worldwide temple locations came in April 2025, generating significant interest among the region’s large Latter-day Saint population.

Canyon County has seen substantial growth in recent years, with Caldwell and Nampa among the fastest-growing cities in Idaho. That population growth — which has brought new residents, businesses, and infrastructure demands — makes the timing of a major faith community facility particularly notable for an area navigating rapid change. What Comes Next

With the site now officially confirmed, the project will move through local permitting and planning processes before construction can begin. No groundbreaking date has been announced publicly. The 19.2-acre parcel, currently within Canyon County jurisdiction, is situated near but not yet within the boundaries of adjacent residential development along Indiana Avenue, meaning land use and zoning considerations may factor into the path forward.

Residents interested in following the project’s progress through local planning channels can monitor Canyon County and City of Caldwell public meeting agendas as the development process unfolds.
