College of Western Idaho officials unveiled a new 35,000-square-foot facility in Nampa on Thursday that consolidates critical student support services under a single roof, marking a significant infrastructure investment as the institution continues rapid enrollment growth. The CapEd Student Success Center brings together the library, tutoring services, writing center, counseling, veteran and military family services, and the bookstore—services that were previously scattered across multiple locations on the Nampa Campus.
The facility’s opening reflects CWI’s expanding role in Canyon County and throughout the Treasure Valley. Since Gordon Jones became president approximately five years ago, the college’s annual enrollment has grown from 28,000 students to more than 36,000—a growth rate that outpaces Idaho population growth by 2 to 3 times. Lt. Gov. Scott Bedke attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, underscoring the project’s significance to state education leadership.
Consolidation Aims to Improve Student Experience
CWI officials emphasized that the new center is designed to streamline the student experience and foster a stronger sense of community on campus. Chad Trisler, Dean of Students, noted that the building represents more than a physical consolidation. “This building will change the feeling of campus, will change the dynamic of campus,” Trisler told attendees at the Thursday ceremony, according to reporting from the Idaho Press.
By housing student support services in one location, CWI reduces the burden on students who previously had to navigate multiple buildings to access tutoring, counseling, or library resources.
