Jack’s Urban Meeting Place in Boise is hosting a special edition of its First Thursdays series tied to the nationwide America 250 celebration, spotlighting the immigrant experience and Idaho’s resettlement history. The June 4 event, titled “We the People: Becoming American,” features storytellers from Ukraine, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda sharing firsthand accounts of their journeys to the United States.
Event Details and Schedule
Attendees are welcome to arrive beginning at 5 p.m. for food and drinks before the official program gets underway at 6:30 p.m. on the building’s sixth floor in the Pioneer Room. Boise Public Library’s Excitetrike — a mobile collection of books and games — will also be on hand for early arrivals looking to browse while they wait for the program to begin.
Part of a Broader America 250 Lineup
The First Thursdays gathering is one of several events the City of Boise has planned in connection with the America 250 commemoration. Additional programming includes a Fourth of July parade and trivia events. A full schedule of America 250 activities is available on the City of Boise’s official website. Canyon County residents looking for similar community programming closer to home can check out the Wilder Wednesdays series at historic Garman Hill, now in its third season, or watch for upcoming parade and community event schedules in Nampa.
