Injury Crash in Paul Sends Five to Local Hospitals

Five Hospitalized After Two-Vehicle Crash and Fire Near Paul, Idaho

A two-vehicle collision in Minidoka County left five people hospitalized Monday afternoon after the crash sparked a fire that engulfed both vehicles. Idaho State Police are investigating the incident, which occurred at 1:12 p.m. on May 25, 2026, at the intersection of 1150 W and 300 N near Paul, Idaho.

What Happened

A 38-year-old Rupert man driving a 2002 Honda CR-V eastbound on 300 N ran a stop sign at the intersection, where he was struck by a northbound 2025 Jeep Compass operated by a 23-year-old woman from Paul. The angle of impact was severe enough to roll the Jeep onto its passenger side, where it caught fire. Flames spread from the Jeep to the Honda and to grass in the surrounding area.

Despite the severity of the crash and the resulting fire, all occupants managed to exit both vehicles before the blaze grew. Investigators noted that the driver and all juvenile passengers in the Jeep were wearing seat belts or using proper restraints, and the Honda driver was also belted at the time of the collision.

Multiple Air and Ground Transports

The scale of the emergency response reflected the seriousness of injuries sustained. The Rupert man from the Honda was taken by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. The Jeep’s driver was airlifted to a regional medical center, while two juvenile passengers were also transported by air ambulance to surrounding hospitals. A fifth occupant — an additional juvenile passenger from the Jeep — was transported by ground ambulance for treatment.

Emergency responders at the scene included West End Fire and QRU, Minidoka Memorial emergency units, LifeFlight, Classic Air Ambulance, Air St. Luke’s, and the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office. The coordinated multi-agency response illustrates the demands rural crash scenes can place on emergency services across a wide geographic area.

Investigation Ongoing

Idaho State Police District 4, which covers southern Idaho counties including Minidoka, is continuing its investigation into the crash. No citations or charges had been publicly announced as of the time of this report.

Roadway intersections in rural Minidoka County, like many across southern Idaho’s agricultural flatlands, often involve high-speed approaches with limited sight lines — conditions that can make stop-sign compliance critical to avoiding broadside collisions. This crash follows a pattern of serious intersection incidents documented across the region. A similar serious injury crash was recently investigated along Interstate 84 near Nampa, highlighting the ongoing public safety challenges facing Idaho highways and rural roads alike.

What Comes Next

Idaho State Police have not indicated a timeline for completing the investigation. Anyone with information about the crash or who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact ISP District 4 at (208) 324-6000. Conditions of those hospitalized had not been publicly released at the time of publication.
